We all know the Fener Greek High School. Alrigth, do we all know the Maraslis Greek Primariy School? I’m sure, no.
This building which attracts attention with its four column entrance, is neither a old greek temple or a presidentship palace. It is a primary school. It was built as a primary school, was not converted from a another building.
Greek merchant Grigoris Maraslis is the mayor of Odessa and one of the richest of Odessa. He decides to build a school but also will pay the education costs of whole school. For this, he reserves a large amount of money.
Grigoris Maraslis wants only a thing. The school built by him, should be bigger than Fener Greek High School a few streets away. He wants to keep his name alive for centruies with this school.
We dont know, did he tell anyone? However history confirms this.
And school opens in 1901 but Maraslis does not like the school. The story starts after from this.
He looks the building he wants, he looks the money he sent and he looks the school he built. There is as much difference as mountains. After, rumors of corruption spread about school construction.
This stutation upset Maraslis and he did not keep his promises for school. He never sent money for school again.
But there is also the truth of the flowing life. Children are studying at school and the school needs money. At the last, Fener Greek Parthiactre donates the income of a church to the school. After a while, this income is not enough and parthiactre founds another solution: School aid trays.
On sundays, these aid trays are taken to some churches and the necessary aid is collected. Over time, this stutaion becomes a tradition. In this way the school survived.
Maraslis Greek Primary School is located in Fener next to Fener Greek Parthiactre. The school had 3 student in 2015.
