Said Halim Pasha Waterfront Residence

Said Halim Pasha was an Islamist who studied social sciences. Has made ımportant contributions development of Islamist thought  in Ottoman Empire . In his books, strongly opposed Westernism.

Pasha entered to the parliament in 1908, rose rapidly, became Grand Vizier in 1913. He held this post more than four years. During this time, used this waterfront residence as working office like many Ottoman statesmen.

Turkish-German Alliance was signed on the rainy day in this waterfront residence in 2 August 1914 and Ottoman Empire entered the Worl War I. This was a big mistake and Ottoman Empire paid a heavy price. Rainy days are sad, aren’t they?

After the alliance, two German ships, Goeben and Breslau, fled from the British, took refuge in İstinye Bay via Çanakkale and bombed the Russian ports and Ottoman Empire entered World War I.

Pasha was exiled to the Malta when war was lost. Later, wanted to return to Istanbul, but couldn’t return. He was murdered by a Armenian in Germany in 1921.

This waterfront residence was built by Said Halim Pasha and his brother Abbas Halim Pasha in 1890. They are grandsons of Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Pasha. Later Said Halim Pasha took over the ownership of the waterfront residence. For this reason, is known with his name.

Today, various organizations are organized in this waterfront residence . (wedding, conference, dinner, yoga, concert…)
